How will I be involved in discussions about planning for my child's education?

(Updated July 2019)

Parents play a vital role in the education of their child and are welcomed into the school where their advice and support is welcomed. If your child is experiencing barriers to their learning and in need of additional support, you will be invited into school to discuss their progress and needs, initially with the class teacher and when appropriate the SENCO.

When we begin the process of Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR) to plan and review provision for your child, we will actively encourage you to be involved in this process. Ideally both you and your child will be present with the teacher when writing the plan and there will always be a meeting to agree each cycle. If your child is identified as having a Special Education Need you will receive an invite to attend each parents evening. If you are unavailable on these dates the class teacher will organise another time and date to agree the APDR targets.

You will always be made aware of any other agencies who will be working with your child and both your child’s views and your own will be sought. Parents are also invited to attend meetings with outside agencies.

If it is not possible for you to attend meetings, reports will be sent to you.
