Key Stage 1 Phonics

Throughout Key Stage 1, children take part in Phonics every day adhering the scheme 'Letters and Sounds'. This has been adapted to suit our needs.
The children are grouped according to their ability and they are regularly screened to see if they are in the correct group. Within a session the children have access to a range of resources and websites. One of the websites the school has a subscription to is called Phonics Play and as a parent you can also register for a parental account if you so desired.
Within Key Stage 1, the government require the children in Year 1 to sit a Phonics Screening. This contains up to 40 words where the children can demonstrate their phonics. The words the children have to read are actual words but some are made up words as well to see if their phonic knowledge is up to a required standard. This data is subsequently published.
