What support will there be to support my child's overall wellbeing?

 (Updated July 2019)

At Sutton School we believe in educating the whole child, which means that support is not only just focused on academic areas.

If a child is in receipt of Speech and Language Therapy, time is provided for them to work either individually or in a very small group with a teaching assistant on the targets and activities set by the Speech and Language Therapist.

Children's mental health is very important to us at Sutton. We have been developing Celestine room which is a nurturing environment for children with social, emotional and mental health needs. Staff are provided training and resources to assist the needs of children. Currently children are receiving friendship, emotion regulation and anxiety interventions. We also have sensory circuit equipment for those children who need regular break during the day. Along side this we are lucky to be developing Jade Room into a further intervention space to allow a calm space for children to work.

All children are supported in their social and emotional development through our PSHE curriculum. If a child is experiencing social or emotional difficulties help is provided.

Every classroom is developing a Peaceful place which is calm and spiritual space for quiet reflection. We have worry monsters in each class for children to share what is in their mind.

During the academic year of 2019-20 we are beginning regular life skills groups for children who need support with daily activities such as cooking, buying items in a shop and catching buses.

The school has access to outside agencies such as: SEND Specialist Serives, CAMHs, Speech and Language Therapy (SLT), Occupational Therapy (OT), health agencies and bereavement counselling.
