Instrumental Lessons

At Sutton School visiting staff come to the school to teach piano and recorder. The piano lessons are on an individual basis and cost £12.50 per week in 2025-6. Pupil Premium children receive a 50% discount, which is paid by the school. Recorder lessons are in small groups at a cost of £3.85 per child, per lesson and again Pupil Premium funding is available.

Children have the opportunity to work towards ABRSM exams on both piano and recorder and support can be sort from Sutton Charity if required.

Rocksteady also visit the school on a Friday and run bands for both KS1 and KS2. The cost of this is about £40 per month.

An after school recorder group runs throughout the year. Those of approximately grade 1 standard are invited to join in order experiencing playing together as a group.

As the whole school sings, there is not a specific choir, but a choir forms for specific events, e.g. singing at Nellie’s Café, Young Voices, Ely Arts Festival.

If children express an interest in learning other musical instruments the school will do their best to support them in finding a teacher. If there is enough interest to mean a teacher can come to the school to teach then that can be arranged.
