Our Curriculum

RE
At Sutton C of E Primary School, our approach to Religious Education (RE) is rooted in the Understanding Christianity framework, providing a comprehensive and engaging learning experience for our pupils. We follow a spiral curriculum, allowing children to revisit core concepts such as Creation, Fall, and Salvation throughout their educational journey. This method ensures a deeper understanding as students encounter these ideas in increasingly complex ways.

Our teaching incorporates the Big Frieze, a visual narrative that aids in connecting the stories and teachings of Christianity. In our exploration of other world faiths, we make use of the Emmanuel Project, which ensures that our pupils gain a broad perspective on faith and spirituality. By posing big questions and fostering quality discussions, we encourage children to think critically and reflectively about religion.

We complement our curriculum with practical, hands-on learning experiences and enrichment days. Events such as the Easter Stations of the Cross and Festivals of Light (including Christmas and Diwali) provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage with the wider community and celebrate various faith traditions. Ultimately, our goal is to nurture a sense of understanding and respect for diverse beliefs within our school community.
