The Sutton Charity has been pleased to contribute to Sutton School’s new library and to the support the School gives to families, but our main focus is on helping people in our community who are in need, hardship or distress.
Many families are ‘just managing’ their finances and even a small crisis can throw everything out of balance. We have helped people by paying for replacement domestic equipment like fridges or washing machines that have reached the end of their useful life car repairs to ensure it is possible to get to work, repair of a boiler and leaking radiator.
Some people may be tempted to take out loans to bridge the income gap, but these often incur high interest charges. Before you take that step, first find out if we can help! Debts can become a great worry, even affecting people’s health; we may be able to lift some of the anxiety by making a contribution to paying off existing debts. We also understand that those living with disability or chronic illness incur extra expenses. We have helped with adaptation to a wheelchair, the costs of various forms of therapy, etc. We can also help to ensure that lack of family funds does not prevent children participating in the full range of school activities.

We start by asking applicants to fill in a simple, user-friendly form to give us an understanding of why help is needed. We provide an information sheet giving pointers to other sources of help, and we usually ask them to come for a relaxed chat with a couple of us to make sure we fully understand what support we can give. We keep the information you share with us confidential.
